The Committee Working to Streamline Online CME Processes

When it comes to providing optimal care for your patients, keeping abreast with the new emerging therapies and research through ongoing education is key. That’s why it was so important for members of the Office of Medical Education (OME) Committee to make changes to the online CME proposal process – to ensure that all AAAAI members are easily able to propose education that they feel is important for healthcare professionals to have access to.

“The AAAAI has served as an ‘education hub’ for me for many, many years. I’m really excited about the new open call process for online course proposals. This is a terrific opportunity for members to get involved, contribute and impact the educational mission of the AAAAI,” said Mary Beth Fasano, MD, MSPH, FAAAAI, current member of the OME.
The new process for online course submission was started by the OME, with member feedback, to create a simplified proposal form that would make it easier to contribute high quality medical education topics to enhance our specialty.
The new proposal process started last year, and AAAAI members like Michael Schatz, MD, MS, FAAAAI, are finding it easy to use. The course he proposed, “How to Provide Optimal Journal Article Reviews”, will launch this fall.

“Since providing optimal reviews for Journal articles is a service to the profession and fulfilling for the reviewer, we wanted to provide education for potential reviewers. We chose an online course because it is easily accessible, has an effective interactive format and provides CME. When submitting our proposal for the course, we found the online submission site to be very clear and user-friendly.”

All AAAAI members are welcome to submit educational activity ideas using the new central form. The OME hopes that by creating a streamlined way to submit online CME proposals, more members will share their unique ideas, allowing for more robust, diverse education opportunities.
Suggestions for online education can also be in a variety of formats, including online courses, webinars, podcasts and more. Following feedback, new micro courses are also being introduced as an option. These 30 minutes or less courses are ideal options for new and emerging topics, or very specific allergy/immunology topics that may not require as much time as a traditional online course.
The 2024 Annual Call for Online CME Course Proposals will run October 1 through November 15, so now’s the time to start working on your proposals. You can get more details about the new process here.
“We would love to hear your ideas,” Dr. Fasano added. “This is your chance to help us develop and expand our educational content to advance the knowledge and practice of allergy/immunology.”
