Board of Directors June Meeting Highlights

The AAAAI Board of Directors met in person June 21-22, 2024, in Seattle, WA, to discuss current and future activities. The members of the Board of Directors appreciate the work of AAAAI committee members and chairs as they strive toward the AAAAI mission to advance the knowledge and practice of allergy, asthma and immunology for optimal patient care. Over the course of the meeting, several significant decisions were made. Here are the highlights:
Approvals
A number of requests were granted approval, including continuation of funding for the Chrysalis Project and the 2025 Honorary Award recipients.
Additionally, the Board approved continued funding for AAAAI leadership development programs such as the Leadership Institute and the Leadership Development Course to be held at the 2025 AAAAI / WAO Joint Congress.
Presidential Presentations
AAAAI President Paul V. Williams, MD, FAAAAI, provided an update on his presidential focus, emphasizing the importance of environmental impact and sustainability goals, alongside collaborations with interest section committees to achieve them. He also highlighted the significance of green allergy practices as well as wildfire smoke mitigation. There are current collaborations with various interest section committees, with specific topics slated for presentation at the 2025 AAAAI / WAO Joint Congress to support these items.
AAAAI President-Elect Frank S. Virant, MD, FAAAAI, provided a first look at his coming presidential focus, including topics of:
  • Clinical practice-targeted sessions at future AAAAI Annual Meetings
  • Developing educational media for primary care physicians and the public on the importance of seeing an allergist/immunologist
  • Developing Practice Parameters as living documents
Miscellaneous
A number of other projects and topics were discussed, including the creation of a workgroup that would aim to mentor Program Directors and Assistant Program Directors within the Program Directors Assembly as they navigate changes within the field.
The creation of an Ambassador-Level Leadership Development Program, to be housed under the AAAAI Leadership Institute, was also approved.
In addition, the three divisions of the Board of Directors—Education, Practice & Policy and Research & Training—met individually to discuss committee activities.
