The members of the AAAAI Board of Directors met in person February 26-27, 2025, in San Diego, CA, during the 2025 AAAAI / WAO Joint Congress, to discuss current and future activities.
The members of the Board of Directors appreciate the work of AAAAI committee members and Chairs as they strive toward the AAAAI mission to advance the knowledge and practice of allergy, asthma and immunology for optimal patient care. Over the course of the meeting, several significant decisions were made. Here are the highlights:
Approvals
A number of requests were granted approval, including the addition of two new staff positions to advance priorities identified in the 2025-2028 AAAAI Strategic Plan. The Board also approved funding for data analysis of the AAAAI In-Training Examination and the ABAI Board exam, as well as a new tiered dues structure for members coming out of their training programs to help increase members’ ability to maintain their membership as new graduates.
Presidential Presentations
Paul V. Williams, MD, FAAAAI, provided his final address to the membership at the annual Business Meeting, thanking everyone for their support over his year as President. He also highlighted some accomplishments from the last year supporting his theme of, Environment, Climate Change and Impact on Allergic Disease. This included multiple sessions at the 2025 AAAAI / WAO Joint Congress and social media posts and podcasts on wildfires, climate change and Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month.
He also highlighted the work done by our volunteer teams to create a sustainable, proactive approach to payers, and to keep lines of communication open with them to help decrease practice barriers.
As one of the year’s highlights, he also announced the launch of the 2025-2028 AAAAI Strategic Plan. This plan emphasizes strategies to ensure the future of the A/I specialty, advance advocacy goals, enhance member communications and benefits and launch new initiatives to make sure members continue to receive cutting edge information through innovative education.
Frank S. Virant, MD, FAAAAI, introduced his presidential initiatives with the membership at the Business Meeting. This included:
  • Developing a Clinical Practice all-day program at the 2026 Annual Meeting;
  • Developing educational media for PCPs and the public on “How the Allergy, Asthma, Immunology Specialist Can Help”; and
  • Transitioning selected Practice Parameters to living documents.
He provided highlights on how he plans to implement these initiatives, ensuring alignment with the new Strategic Plan. He will use multiple channels to demonstrate the value of the A/I specialist, all while continuing to educate members on the knowledge and practice of allergy/immunology.
