President’s Message

Dear Friends,
It seems impossible that summer is winding down, with Labor Day in less than one week! As clinicians we are focused on helping our young patients have a healthy start to the school year. This is a timely reminder of how critical our work is in ensuring that children with asthma and food allergies are safe and supported in educational settings. In this issue of Impact, you’ll read about AAAAI members in Detroit who partnered with school nurses and staff to improve preparedness for asthma and anaphylaxis emergencies. Their efforts show how extending our expertise into the community directly impacts the well-being of patients and shines a light on our specialty.

Also, in this edition we feature:
  • Phil Lieberman, MD, FAAAAI, and his extraordinary 60-year career as he prepares to receive the 2026 Lifetime Contribution to the AAAAI and Allergy/Immunology Specialty Award
  • Highlights from the 2025 AAAAI Practice Management Workshop, where attendees experienced hands-on, actionable education on everything from coding updates to enhancing office practice efficiency
  • The start of the first allergy/immunology training program in Utah, expanding access to care and advancing the future of our field
  • And more
I encourage you to think about the common thread that ties these stories together: each demonstrates the power of sharing our experiences to elevate our specialty. When we tell these stories about community partnerships, decades of leadership, or innovative education, we not only inspire one another, but we also reinforce the AAAAI’s role as the trusted resource for patients, policymakers and the public. We want to hear your stories too. Send your feature ideas to April Presnell from the AAAAI staff.
Thank you for all you do to advance our specialty. I hope you enjoy this issue of Impact and see yourself reflected in the many ways our specialty is making a difference. Enjoy these waning days of summer!
Sincerely, Frank S. Virant, MD, FAAAAI
