Join us in San Diego, CA, USA for the 2025 AAAAI / WAO Joint Congress, where the global impacts of climate change on allergy/immunology will be explored by experts from around the world. “We look forward to meeting national and international colleagues to explore the multifaceted ways climate influences allergic and immunologic disorders,” said Julie Wang, MD, FAAAAI, Chair of the Annual Meeting Program Committee (AMPC). “With a global perspective, insights into the intersection of climate and allergic diseases can inform the development of strategies to mitigate the health effects of living in a changing environment.” Joshua Boyce, MD, FAAAAI, past Chair of the AMPC, pointed to the importance of the 2025 theme. “Global climate change is one of the most critical issues facing humanity. This change presents unprecedented challenges to our specialty and our patients. The 2025 theme sessions will frame the critical questions our specialty needs to prepare for.” The Joint Congress is the premier allergy and immunology event of the year, featuring the latest research in the field and offering transformative education that will help you provide optimal care to your patients. Make your plans to join us February 28 - March 3 in San Diego, CA, USA!

Lewis H. Ziska, PhD, a renowned expert and author known world-wide for his exploration of the intersection of climate change, carbon dioxide levels, plant biology and public health, will keynote the Joint Congress.
Dr. Ziska will highlight his years of research which has focused on the impacts of climate change and elevated carbon dioxide levels on agricultural systems, including crop selection for CO2 responsiveness, climate-related pest dynamics and the effects on food security, nutrition and pesticide use during Saturday’s address.
Throughout his career, Dr. Ziska has contributed to multiple reports by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Additionally, he was a contributor to the 2014 and 2018 National Climate Assessment (NCA), and led the 2016 special NCA report on climate and health, titled The Impacts of Climate Change on Human Health in the United States: A Scientific Assessment. He is the author of four books, including Climate Change and Rice and Greenhouse Planet: How Rising CO2 Changes Plants and Life as We Know It.
Dr. Ziska currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Environmental Health Sciences department at the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University, where he also leads the Climate and Health Certificate program.

A Preview of the 2025 Plenaries

Friday’s Presidential Plenary: Environmental Influences on the Microbiome: Impact on Allergic Diseases, will feature AAAAI President Paul V. Williams, MD, FAAAAI, and WAO President-Elect Dr. Mario Morais-Almeida. The session will present the latest data on the impact of climate change and the environment on the microbiome, and how that impacts allergic diseases. Gaps in current knowledge and potential options for clinical management of the affected diseases will also be discussed.
Saturday’s Plenary: How to Adapt the Practice of Allergy and Immunology to Climate Change, will focus on issues related to climate change that impact the care of patients with rhinitis. Topics addressed will include aerobiology, the epidermal barrier, environmental disparities and much more.
Sunday’s Plenary: Ending Respiratory Viral Infections: The Quest for Vaccines, will provide an update on the current state of the art in vaccine development for major respiratory viral infections. Speakers will discuss current vaccines, the search for universal vaccines and how to predict vaccine responses.
Monday’s Plenary: Changes to Asthma Management in an Ever-Changing World, will highlight the use of artificial intelligence, novel application of epigenetics in vulnerable populations and asthma guideline implementation in the United States and rest of the world.

Download the New App to Improve Your Joint Congress Experience

Get pumped for the 13th Annual AAAAI Foundation Run/Walk on Sunday, March 2! Enjoy the fresh air while raising money for allergy, asthma and immunology research. Participants may choose to run the competitive 5K route or walk a shorter route at their own pace.

Discovery Returns for a Second Year

Due to popular demand, Discovery, the AAAAI’s three-day conference devoted to basic science research, will return for a second year in 2025. Held February 27 - March 1, 2025, in conjunction with the 2025 AAAAI / WAO Joint Congress, Discovery features sessions by leading investigators who will explore cutting-edge basic science focused on IgE development, type 2 immunocytes (including mast cells and eosinophils) and mechanisms connecting viral infection and immune deficiency to atopy.
“Discovery will continue to provide dedicated programming to engage basic scientists and foster productive collaboration between clinicians and translational scientists to further our understanding of the underlying mechanisms by which environmental factors mediate allergy and inflammation,” Dr. Wang said.
The 2024 event sold out, so make sure to register early if you’re interested! Discovery and the 2025 AAAAI / WAO Joint Congress have separate registration fees, but discounts are applied if you attend both.
